Season 2: A Little Life During Lockdown

This is the sound of Braided under lockdown. In this six-part season, we take you inside our dreams, and out where we walk in the small hours. We bring you in on the phone calls we make, and the bedrooms we record in. We sit you in on group story meetings. And further in, on that which occupies our private hours—be that pending dread; the frustrations of buzzing fridges; navigating an all-white household during the Black Lives Matter protests; or the longing for the day it’s again possible to get one’s hair braided among friends.

Throughout this, we reach out to one another across a quieter, hushed city bracing itself for the uncertainties of the months ahead. Join hosts Matisse Laida and Agum Maluach as they guide you through their own stories and those of rest of the Braided team scattered around Melbourne’s inner and outer suburbs. They are Georgia Willmott, Reggie Chang, Kim Handley, Danny Hillyer, Mary Kato, and Elijah Augustine.

During the months of making and connecting over the production period, it becomes clear this season is as much about the producers themselves, as the stories they’ll go on to tell throughout the series.

These are, after all, stories from lockdown, the things that have occupied their hours, their thoughts; the things they have chosen to hold up to the microphone, to shed light on, as it were, in darker times.

Music for this season was created by Danny Hillyer, an Artful Dodgers Studios musician and Braided producer.
